Engineers behind the multi-agent framework https://github.com/geekan/MetaGPT and the AI coding service MetaGPT X have launched OpenManus.
OpenManus is an open-source Python project designed to replicate the capabilities of the Chinese Manus AI, a hyped general-purpose artificial intelligence (currently invite-only), known for its ability to autonomously perform complex tasks, including programming.
Currently compared to Manus, there is no GUI - everything needs to be done through the terminal, making it more similar to Claude Code plus MCP. "Improve the UI’s visual appeal to create a more intuitive and seamless user experience." is in the Roadmap.
